Blog Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in contributing to living theology.
The living theology blog reaches thousands of readers each month throughout the English-speaking world.
Our purpose is to equip and encourage people to become more like Jesus Christ, and to live all of life with God-honoring competence and joy.
Appropriate topics for the blog are aligned with this purpose and are subject to editorial review and acceptance. Please review our website (johnbmacdonald.com) and read some of our blogs to get a feel for the pieces we publish.
Here are our general guidelines:
1. Length of posts: 800-1200 words. We might consider posts outside these limits in some circumstances.
2. Format: Please submit your work as an email attachment in Microsoft Word (.docx) or Google Docs format.
3. Published work: We will consider work that has appeared elsewhere as long as you own the copyright, but we prefer original, unpublished work.
4. AI-generated product: We do not knowingly publish AI-generated text. Do not submit text produced by AI or with AI assistance. You may use AI in a limited way to proofread grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Your cover letter must detail any AI use.
5. Payment: While we do not provide payment for works published, we offer guest contributors exposure to our growing audience.
6. Bio: Along with your submission, please include a 1-2 sentence bio. This should include any relevant information, such as your ministry or job title/description, publication history, degrees and awards, and perhaps a personal note or interest.
Provide a digital photograph of yourself with the spelling of your name as you want it to appear.
List your social media links and website after your bio. These may be used for promotional purposes, where appropriate.
7. Editorial: Selected pieces will be subject to editorial guidance from the living theology team. This guidance could include cosmetic edits and requests to the author for targeted edits. Your work will not be published without your approval of changes to the original submission.
Please provide an image that can accompany the submission, together with the licence allowing the use of that image with the publication. We reserve the right to select an image to accompany any work, for which we usually seek input and acceptance by the author.
8. Response times: We usually decide within 1-2 weeks of receiving your piece, but delays might occur.
After you have read and agreed to the submission guidelines, please send your work, along with your bio, author photo, proposed image(s), and any other requested materials, to jmacdonald@outreach.ca with the subject line “SUBMISSION”.
